Louis Poulsen PH 2/1 Pendant

“Poul Henningsen, designer, was born in Copenhagen. He never graduated as an architect, but studied at The Technical School at Frederiksberg, Denmark from 1911-14, and then at Technical College in Copenhagen from 1914-17. He started practicing traditional functionalistic architecture, but over the years, his professional interests changed to focus mainly on lighting which is what he is most famous for.”

The Louis Poulsen PH 2/1 Pendant fixture was designed based on the principle that consists of a reflective three-shade system. This system directs the most part of the light downwards. The shades of this pendant are made of a mouth-blown opal three-layer glass system. These shades are is shiny on the top, and sandblasted matt on the inside, giving the Louis Poulsen PH 2/1 Pendant a soft and diffused light distribution.

Poul Henningsen designed this signature three-shade system back in 1925-1926. The first lights using this three-shade system were designed by the PH company in cooperation with Louis Poulsen for an exhibition in Paris, France. Since then, the Louis Poulsen PH 2/1 Pendant has been a favorite pendant for many.

The Louis Poulsen PH 2/1 Pendant a porcelain socket, and candelabra base. The stem is made of high lustre chrome plated aluminum. The shades are made of mouth blown opal glass, and are 2 mm thick each. The total weight is 2.08 kg.
